Mission Statement

For the purpose of this Study Group, the term minority means communities, groups and/or individuals, including indigenous, migrant and other vulnerable groups that are at higher risk of discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, race, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, disability, political opinion, social or economic deprivation.
The Study Group focuses on music and minorities by means of research, documentation and interdisciplinary study. It serves as a forum for cooperation among scholars through meetings, publications and correspondence.

(Note: The previous definition has been replaced by this working definition adopted at the Study Group's Business Meeting in Vienna on 27 July 2018. It is a subject of ongoing discussion within the Study Group)

How Become a Member?

Membership in ICTMD entitles you to be a member of any and as many of its study groups as you wish. If you would like to join the ICTMD Study Group on Music and Minorities, please write a message to the Study Group Secretary Dr. Ioannis Christidis at christidis@mdw.ac.at.
