A Non-Governmental Organization in Formal Consultative Relations with UNESCO
New Dates: 13―15 May 2022
Location: Online
Due to great concern for member safety, potential difficulties with local and international travel, and other issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Local Arrangement Committee expressed reservation over hosting the 7th symposium (originally scheduled for August 2020) and postponed the symposium. The Executive Committee has rescheduled the 7th Symposium for 13―15 May, 2022 and will host the symposium via an online format. The Executive Committee has settled on a date before June 2022 for the symposium to avoid a clash with the 46th ICTM World Conference in 21-27 July, 2022.
The symposium will be co-organized and co-hosted by the School of Languages (Monash University), Royal Holloway University of London, Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology (National Taiwan Normal University), Department of Music Education (Nara University of Education), Department of Music (University of Hong Kong), College of General Education (Kookmin University) and World Music Center Cultural Foundation Korea. For the first time in MEA’s history, the 7th Symposium will be co-hosted by several institutions located in different continents. Additionally, the symposium will sponsored in part by the Association for Asian Studies.
The overarching theme is “East Asian Performing Arts at the Vanguard of Global Expressivities,” as posted in 2019. The suggested themes will remain the same as those in the original Call for Papers for the 7th Symposium. For more information, visit the Study Group’s Website. Paper and panel proposals are called for from any members of MEA wishing to participate. There is no registration fee for entire presenters or participants for MEA 2022. Please feel free to join us. Please visit the website and register. We look forward to communicating with and learning from scholars actively working on a variety of topics in East Asian music.
