ICTM Study Group on Music and Dance of Oceania

The Study Group on the Music and Dance of Oceania is an informal association of scholars
within the ICTM who share interests in the study of the musics and dances of Oceania. They meet when opportunities arise to discuss their research and periodically exchange information through an internal newsletter. Special meetings have been held in Australia in 1988, 1995 and 2001; Germany in 1993; Japan in 1999; and Palau 2004. Informal gatherings have been held on other occasions, such as the Festivals of Pacific Arts and the Melanesian Arts Festivals, and in conjunction with meetings of other scholarly societies in which SGMO members participated. In 2001 members of the Study Group published the book 'Traditionalism and Modernity in the Music and Dance of Oceania' in honour of Barbara.

Business Meeting at 38th World Conference in Sheffield.

Members may have noticed that a Business Meeting of the SGMO is not scheduled in the Preliminary Program of the World Conference published in the April Bulletin. Very short notice was given to include such notices and yours truly missed the deadline. However, a slot has been secured on Monday 8 August from 20:45 – 21:45 in Room C. I have been assured that this information will be included in the Final Program.
Stephen Wild
