Mission Statement

The objectives of the Study Group are to promote research, documentation, and
interdisciplinary study of TRADITIONAL DANCE, as well as to provide a forum for
cooperation among scholars and students of ethnochoreology by means of international
meetings, publications, and correspondence.

The Study Group on Ethnochoreology is open to all ICTM members who are
involved in the field of research in traditional dance, either as specialists in the field or
in related fields which include consideration of materials relevant to traditional dance.

For some time the Study Group has organised every two years an international
Symposium and has published the proceedings (see Publications page). The Study
Group also meets informally at ICTM World Conferences. A large percentage of our
members attend our Symposia.

The Study Group currently counts 171 members, from over 45 nations world
wide. Membership is obtained by writing to the Study Group Chairperson and
returning the Newsletter Information Form, indicating intention of membership, to the
Newsletter editor.
